High impact polyethylene (HIPS)

HIPS (High impact polystyrene for short) is a thermoplastic material made of elastomer modified polystyrene. HIPS have the dimensional stability of general polystyrene (GPPS), and have better impact strength and rigidity. A non-polar polymer is also an excellent electrical insulator. Applications in HIPS range from tiny gears and screws to home appliances, phones, cleaning tools and even cars and computers. The main single application of HIPS is in packaging, particularly in the food industry.
